Here’s my Simmons 8-Point 3-9x50mm Review

Between sky high gas prices and the huge increase in the cost of living these days, it can be hard to find a quality rifle scope that won’t break the bank.

When I was looking for a budget rifle scope, the Simmons 8-Point 3-9x50mm popped up.

To say the least, it has many premium features that are worth writing home about.

For starters, its reticle is simple and user-friendly, which is clutch for someone just starting out. Plus, it’s got a huge 50mm objective lens, which has been really helpful especially on darker, cloudy days.

But is the Simmons 8-Point 3-9x50mm rifle scope right for you?

Keep reading and let’s find out.

Glass Clarity & Reticle

Bright, clear, and high contrast are the first things that come to mind when thinking about this optic’s lens.

For one thing, the lens itself on this rifle scope is generous in size.

Even my buddies agree that the resolution and clarity is actually sort of surprising for an optic in this price range.

I get a consistently clear view for easy target acquisition and I don’t have to worry about my lens fogging up or getting warped because of rain or humidity.

Fogproof, waterproof, recoil proof…The Simmons 8-Point checks off all those boxes.

The wire reticle is simple and not overwhelming like some of the others I tried out.

It’s not illuminated and not compatible with night vision, but not really an issue if you don’t use the rifle scope in completely dark conditions.

Speaking of which, if you’re new to the game, check out my best rifle scopes review. The Truplex reticle is specific to the Simmons brand. I love it because the crosshairs are clear and crisp. They make aiming a breeze.

The objective lens is rather large, so it can be difficult to mount. If you need a Truplex reticle matte black rifle scope with a smaller OL, check out the Simmons 8-Point 3-9x40mm.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

The eye relief for the Simmons 8-point is standard at about 3.75 inches.

For some, that may feel short, but it hasn’t been an issue for me, especially when I’m shooting at longer distances.

The field of view is something I’m still getting used to as I practice using each magnification setting. At 9x magnification, the field of view is about 10 feet at 100 yards.

As always, whether you’re a rookie or a veteran shooter, proper cheek welding is crucial.

Durability

Don’t let the price tag fool you. The Simmons 8-Point 3-9x50mm rifle scope may be low in price, but it’s not cheap in quality.

After all, it’s got multi-coated lenses that are O-ring sealed making it fogproof, waterproof, and shockproof.

I’ll admit I was a little hesitant to buy this Truplex reticle matte black rifle scope because some have said that their reticle started to rotate after 10 rounds. I haven’t had this problem yet.

Plus, this wasn’t really a deal breaker for me because I know that Simmons has a warranty on its rifle scope. They’ll repair or replace their optics should they be defective or faulty.

It comes with lens caps for the fully coated optics.

Elevation & Windage Knobs

The windage and elevation adjustment system is easy to turn for outstanding precision.

They’ve got Simmons SureGrip rubber surfaces, which is a feature specific to the Simmons brand. It makes the elevation and windage knobs tactile and move freely no matter the conditions.

I like that I don’t need tools to adjust the knobs. Plus, sighting the scope was pretty straight forward. It also holds zero well.

Parallax & Magnification

The magnification range of the Truplex reticle matte black finish rifle scope is 3-9x. I can identify easy target acquisition in great detail with that sight picture.

Parallax is fixed at 100 yards. For some, this could be a con. For me, someone who was in need of a basic, budget-friendly rifle scope, this wasn’t a deal breaker.

Mounting & Rings

Unfortunately, the mounts and rings aren’t included.

I learned the hard way that high rings are an absolute must for this Truplex reticle matte black rifle scope.

Right now, I’ve got mine mounted using these one inch high rail rings. I like the way the rifle scope feels secure and sturdy.

1 thought on “Simmons 8-Point 3-9x50mm Review (2022): Worth the Money?”

  1. Parallax adjustment is not all that “much” of a deal for scopes with 3×9 magnification. 10yds to infinity is not unusual and works just fine. Get up past 18x and at long range and it’ll become a lot more of an issue. This scope has a nice mix of the right features for an economical scope and is very rugged in it’s construction. I personaly find 3×9 to be a very useful range of magnification for a rifle that is used for hunting and target shooting to 100 yds. More top end maginification often means the lower power is pretty jiggly offhand. 3x is about right, it seems to me.
