The Simmons 8-Point 3-9×40 truplex rifle scope costs only $60.

With a price tag like that, the optic must be trash. Or at least, that’s what I thought.

After shooting over 100 rounds and testing every feature from durability to eye relief, I’m actually quite surprised with this budget optic.

Here’s my Simmons 8-Point 3-9×40 Review

The Simmons 8-Point 3-9×40 riflescope offers high-quality features for the price tag.

It’s lightweight, yet tough enough to take on the worst abuse or accidental drops. Along with the quick target acquisition, it holds zero like a charm.

Plus, the 8-point rifle scope doesn’t cost a fortune. So there are no worries about paying beyond a certain budget limit.

But how could the Simmons 8-point 3-9×40 rifle scope be functional and a great deal for it’s more affordable price?

Keep reading to find out…

Glass Clarity & Reticle

The glass clarity is crisp and very clear, which isn’t surprising with the fully-coated optics.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 LENS

This feature helps prevent the dreaded sun glare and keeps the shooter’s view clear as day. I definitely found the glass to be of high-quality. Which is great considering the price of this rifle scope.

It certainly rivals some of the best riflescopes on the market this year. Prior to checking it out, I wasn’t sure if going the less expensive route for any rifle scope would be worth it. After all, no one wants to end up with a dud.

But looking through the glass on these fully-coated optics gave me the best clarity. Plus, the 40mm sight gives a clear field of vision which makes swift target acquisition a breeze. When looking through this 8-point scope, I got high-quality optics for a bright and excellently contrasted target image.

As for the sight picture, it’s a Truplex reticle with crosshairs. Although the Truplex reticle is a bit thicker than the ones I’ve shot with before, its build is excellent for low-light.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 RETICLE AND CLARITY

The fully-coated optics is decently bright up to the seventh brightness setting. Beyond that, I found it easier to aim at targets in direct sunlight.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 LENS

Even though the crosshairs are easy to aim with, I did find that the image was blurry at certain brightness levels. However, I did learn more about adjusting to an optimal brightness level while using this scope.

For some shooters, figuring out how to fully operate an optic can be tricky. But it’s important to know the optic, so check out what scope numbers mean.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

The eye relief of these fully-coated optics is 3.5 inches, which I found a bit unforgiving.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 EYEPIECE

It’s a shorter eye relief, especially at higher magnifications. But when I stayed dialed down, it wasn’t an issue. So shooting close-range targets was much easier with the low magnification.

Another tip I found useful is having a solid cheek weld to correct the eye relief. There are long-range riflescopes that have magnification especially for long-range targets. But working around the Simmons 8-point 3-9×40 wasn’t a total inconvenience.

When it comes to coated optics, sometimes a little wiggle room is needed. The eye relief may not be my exact fit, but I was able to correct it.

Durability

This scope can handle the worst accidental drops.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 OVERVIEW

Not only is it waterproof and fog proof, but it’s recoil proof to boot. So I didn’t have to worry about any intense recoil ruining this optic.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 MOUNTED

Overall, I’m impressed with the rugged construction and high-quality protection from the elements. It’s durable yet affordable, so it’s fantastic for smaller caliber or lower power loads.

I’m definitely bringing this scope along on my hog hunting adventures. I know it will hold up well with no problem.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 TURRETS (4)

Elevation & Windage Knobs

The turrets were close to getting my good graces, but I had drawbacks.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 TURRETS (5)

First off, they aren’t too snappy. Meaning there were no crisp clicks when adjusting.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 TURRETS (3)

While I was making windage and elevation adjustments, they felt spongy. However, they were quite accurate, so I was able to use these MOA turrets to their full capacity without any further issues.

There are several differences between MOA and MRAD, so be sure to know each one by heart.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 TURRETS (4)

Zeroing was easy, and it remained well throughout my shooting time. Even after nearly 1,000 shots, it still held. Plus, it even held in between my trips to the range.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 MOUNT RINGS

It didn’t drift, which is the essential hallmark of a quality scope in this area. This has to do with the TrueZero windage and elevation adjustments system. It keeps the zero locked in place.

Proper adjustment is crucial in operating any optic. Be sure to know how to adjust any riflescope correctly.

Parallax & Magnification

The Truplex reticle magnification is 3-9x, with a fixed parallax.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 RETICLE AND CLARITY

But I found that the Truplex reticle didn’t want to focus at close distances at high magnification. So I had to put the focus all the way back at times, depending on how close I was to my target.

SIMMON 8-POINT 3-9X40 MAGNIFICATION ADJUSTMENT

The parallax pegs at 100 yards and has a pretty standard depth of field. But if I’m going to be shooting over 100 yards, I’ll want a scope with a higher magnification range.

However, I hit my targets flawlessly, if I do say so myself. So the rifle scope magnification isn’t a loss, I just had to adjust to this optic.

Mounting & Rings

There’s no mount or rings included with the Simmons 8-Point 3-9×40, but I have some recommendations.

For a clearer picture of crucial mounting tips, check out how to properly mount a scope:

After that educational moment, I mounted it on my Lonsel 21mm Picatinny/Weaver Rail.

LONSEL Dovetail to Picatinny Rail Adapter 11mm Dovetail to 21mm Picatinny/Weaver Rail Convert Mount - Low Profile Scope Riser Rail Adaptor - Base Mount 3/8" to 7/8" Converter
  • ✌ Precision Material - Premium out of aircraft grade aluminum alloy and black hard coat anodize finish, sturdy & durable.
  • ✌ Convert 11mm Dovetail to 21mm Picatinny Rail - 2.94 inches length at the base, the picatinny rail extends 3.94 inches allowing for more flexible optics placement.
  • ✌ Mount Base - Fit 11mm dovetail mounts, Base mount 3/8" to 7/8" converter adapter. Low profile 0.59" riser rail for scope.

Speaking of Weaver, check out my review of the Weaver Kaspa 3-9×40 riflescope.

Because the scope is pretty slim, it has plenty of space for a variety of mounting options. But I highly recommend getting a low to medium mount.

I used the Modkin Rifle Scope Rings because they offer a medium profile once mounted. These scope rings will fit any 22mm Picatinny or Weaver rail mount. Plus, they’re durable and provide a firm grip around the scope.

  • ☑ Double scope ring mount for Picatinny/ Weaver Rail (21mm).
  • ☑ Design in see-through style, provide potential visibility for open sights, meanwhile hollowed-out configuration helps to release heavy duty when clamping your scope.
  • ☑ Built-in tape inside per rings to prevent from marring the scope, also prevent sliding and holding postion accurately.

The price of the 8-Point 3-9×40 is more affordable than most riflescopes on the market.

  1. I have this scope mounted on a Henry h001 because my old eyes don’t see like they used to do…I’m just a simple plinker usually at 100 yards shooting the cheapest bulk I can find…the scope has been foolproof since it was mounted…I’m not too up to date on all these technical terms used in the article, I just want to say this scope works just fine for me…carry on…
