Here’s my Sig Romeo 5 Review
The Sig Sauer Romeo 5 is a great red dot sight choice for both beginners and veteran shooters for optimum operational safety.
When it arrived at my doorstep, I was as excited as a kid in a candy shop. I read so many 5-star reviews and wanted to check it out myself.
The box was generic-looking, but it came with everything advertised. It took about 5 minutes to install and off to the range I went.
For its price tag, this optic is impressive. You get everything that higher-end red dot sights come with but at a fraction of the cost and weight.
Let me explain exactly why…
Glass Clarity & Reticle
The Sig Sauer Romeo5 glass is crystal clear.
It comes with a 2 MOA red dot sight that makes rapid target acquisition easy. Winner winner squirrel dinner!
By the way:
If you want a green dot instead, the Romeo 5 XDR model offers it. If you want both, the Vortex Strikefire II is a great alternative that features a user-selected green/red reticle.
The Sig Sauer Romeo5 is equipped with 10 illumination settings: 8 for daylight conditions, and 2 for night vision. The sensor will automatically adjust the brightness, but you set it up manually as well.
There are two buttons on top. The + button increases brightness and the – button decreases it. To turn the optic on/off, simply hold down either button.
The Sig Romeo 5’s highlighted feature is its Motion Activated Illumination (MOTAC).
This is a big bonus compared to other red dot sights within its price range (like the Burris Fastfire 2 or 3). The sight automatically turns on when it senses motion and automatically turns off when it’s inactive after 2 minutes.
This gives you two benefits: prolonged battery life and easy activation. Plus, it retains the last illumination setting. Pretty convenient, right?
I did notice that its motion-sensing is highly sensitive, even the slightest bump will wake it up. If you find this a hassle and prefer an auto-off battery feature instead, I recommend looking at the Vortex Sparc AR.

Eye Relief & Eye Box
This Sig Sauer Romeo 5 red dot comes with unlimited eye relief.
It has a wide field of view no matter where you mount it. I’ve always been able to aim precisely and quickly acquire targets.
Durability and Battery Life
The Sig Sauer Romeo 5 is simple yet robust.
The body is constructed from machined aluminum with a black anodized finish. It’s so compact and lightweight that I can hardly tell it’s there.
The optic is IPX-7-rated, meaning it can withstand heavy rain with a fog-proof performance. It also scores well at the drop test, submersion test, shotgun test, and freeze test.
The Sig Sauer Romeo5 comes with a side-loading CR2032 battery compartment that’s rated to last 40,000+ hours.
If you ask any seasoned shooter, the realistic battery life would be around 5,000 hours if used regularly.
On the other hand, you don’t need to dismount the red dot sight for a quick battery replacement. That’s a big plus for me.
Elevation & Windage Knobs
The windage and elevation knobs produce audible and tactile clicks.
The screw-on covers can be turned over and used to make the adjustments.
I had it zeroed in at 25 yards in less than 10 rounds. After that, I felt like I couldn’t miss my point of aim! I keyholed rounds between 50 and 150 yards all day.
2,000 rounds later, it still holds zero.
Parallax & Magnification
The Sig Sauer Romeo 5 red dot sports a 1x fixed magnification.
This red dot sight is useful up to about 150 yards. You can pair it with the best red dot magnifier for distances up to 300 yards.
The Sig Romeo 5 does have slight parallax, but the effect is negligible. As long as you maintain your cheek weld, the red dot remains parallel so you’ll be fine.
Mounting & Rings
The Sig Sauer Romeo 5 comes with two versatile industry-standard mounting options.
The co-witness 1.41 in riser mount is intended for AR-15 type weapons. The M1913 Picatinny low mount riser allows you to place the red dot sight on more traditional stocks or even handguns.
I use the low mount for my shotguns and it lines up perfectly with my iron sights.
Added accessories include a screwdriver for mounting, silicone lens cap, battery, cleaning cloth, and instructions.
Beware: many shooters have complained about getting quality defects. Fakes abound everywhere, so be vigilant about your purchase.

Yes, it’s very sensitive. There is a good chance that it would stay on with the slightest movement. I recommend manually turning it off to override this motion activation when in a moving vehicle. That way, you can extend battery life.
The 2 MOA red dot is crisp and round. It doesn’t starburst at higher intensity settings. Even users with astigmatism love this optic.
Both red dots are very similar in design but they also offer significant differences in their features. For example, both have long-lasting battery life and excellent durability. But, Romeo 4 treats you with 4 reticle choices while Romeo 5 only has the standard red dot. It also boils down to personal preference. The Romeo 5 is an electro-optic from Sig Sauer, a well-known manufacturer of firearms.
Wow, this is my first sig sauer product. What a disappointment. This is a worthless piece os S—. Do not buy!! Cannot believe someone would ship something this F—ed up. Obviously Sig has QC problems.
what exactly went wrong?
Mine was 100% right out of the box, just needed to zero it.
Where/who did you buy it from? I bought mine sold/shipped by Amazon and it’s good at low brightness but starbursts at the higher settings. I don’t think it’s defective, I think I have astigmatism. You may be in the same boat.
I had the same problem, my guess is you bought it on ebay or amazon. Sig may be the most knocked off optical of all-time. I got one on Amazon and I had a problem so I called Sig. They walked me through the knock off determination process, yes it was a knock off. I would guess at least 90% on ebay are fake.

I love the optic personally however I may be biased as it’s my 1st sight I’ve ever owned.
Pros: size weight and eye relief [great for those with an astigmatism] clear dot in the center of a concise circle very easy to Kentucky windage if necessary. Easy to zero as well
Cons: I prefer green dotted sights over red [it catches my eye better] as well my sight kinda bloomed at full brightness. Another con is the price point it’s ever so slightly high at the 100-110 dollar range this would get full marks from me (I paid an exorbitant 169.99 for it [gun store markups]).

That is an obvious defect or you were sold a fake. Why are you posting here and not handling it through the proper channels? I hate worthless comments like yours. Figure out how to be better than you are.
I just used my Romeo 5 to harvest two Turkeys. My scope was very easy to sight in and the clarity is perfect for an older set of eyes. I especially appreciate that when I forget to turn off my battery, it’ll take care of that on it’s own.
I’d also like to mention that while hunting, the weather provided some serious precipitation. This did not present any problems with my visibility or any fogging. I’m very pleased with my SigSauer Romeo 5!
Like it but haven’t been to the range yet. Easy to install & setup. Will see if any further adjustments will be needed. Put it on MP 223/5.62 & it lines up well with the iron sights ( to be confirmed at the range). So far looks great!
I have had my Sig Romeo 4 for about 2 years. Pro. battery last a long time. easy to adjust windage. rugged . Con. The red dot is not round no matter what intensity. It is oblong .
I don’t think the red dot automatically adjusts brightness. Nowhere on Sig’s website does it say that. The company that designed and manufactured these sights (Holosun HS503) has solar powered models. The solar panel is the only thing that makes the Holosun model auto-adjusting brightness.

What are the main reasons someone would spend 5X as much on an EOTECH exps2?
If your goal is quick target acquisition under 100 yards, how can the EOTECH be any better?? A red dot is a red dot…. correct? What am I missing?
I’m not concerned about ability to magnify or ruggedness… I just want a red dot in the “air” for me to aim… does the bigger window on the Eotech make it easier to acquire a target? Is that worth 5x the money?
