Is the Nikon P 308 worth the money?
I bought this scope back in 2015 and since then, I’ve put over 400 rounds through it. And to this day, it has never failed me.

Here’s my Nikon P-308 Scope Review
Today I will be talking about one of the more popular riflescopes currently out in the market, the Nikon P-308 Scope. This scope is perfect for those beginner and intermediate shooters. So, are you ready to find out all about the Nikon P-308 Scope? Let’s dive in!
Glass Clarity & Reticle
The Nikon P-308 Nitrogen purged Scope has in-line construction with a nitrogen filled tube. It offers excellent optical clarity with the use of the 32 mm objective lens. The illuminated reticle is also clear and precise in its design, which will be discussed in more detail later on. *It is important to note that this scope does not have a low light level dot – it only has the illuminated crosshairs. It has a .22 mil outer diameter, which means that the crosshair will be smaller than what you may be used to with other scopes. The reticle is designed with green crosshairs, which makes them easier to see in varying lighting conditions. Now I’m not saying that it will be harder to see in dark lighting conditions if your reticle was red, but I will say that the green ones blend in more naturally with your surroundings than red ones do. The Nikon P-308 is especially effective when it comes to hog hunting.
Eye Relief & Eye Box
The eye relief of the P-308 is a generous 10mm, which will permit the user to shoot with proper shooting posture. The eye box is a large 23mm x 15mm, which will also help prevent shooter fatigue, as well as optical issues caused by uneven lighting conditions. You can check out how to sight a rifle scope here.
Durability
The scope is made of a highly durable material, which makes it extremely shock resistant. It’s water and fog-proof as well, allowing for all types of weather. It also has an impact resistant lens, which protects against bullet shrapnel and other foreign materials that could cause damage to the scope. It is built to withstand anything you can throw at it. It is one of the best long-ranged and lightweight rifle scopes out currently.
Elevation & Windage Knobs
The knob is made of aluminum, with a rubber grip. The windage and elevation turrets are included, but the windage is constructed differently than the traditional turret design. This new design makes it very easy to adjust in situations where you may experience hand troubles, such as when wearing gloves in cold weather. The Nikon P-308 Nitrogen purged scope has a very simple design, with few features. The windage and elevation dials are also located on the top of the Nikon P-308. One nice thing about this scope is that it has 1/4 inch adjustment increments, making it easy to make minute adjustments while you’re out in the field adjusting for range and wind speed. Another good alternative in this department is the Weaver Kaspa 3.
Parallax & Magnification
The P-308 offers a scope number of maximum magnification of 12x, which can be helpful when using the illuminated reticle. The parallax on this scope is set at 100 yards, but there is no parallax adjustment offered, which will eliminate the need to change the distance if you’re shooting at shorter ranges. The Nikon P308 Nitrogen Purged Scope has a magnification of 1x, which is quite an important one for more experienced shooters. It has an objective diameter of 32mm, which is on the bigger side. This means that it will be easier to see downrange with more reliable results. It has an exit pupil of 2.7 mm, which will help you see through your scope better than other scopes with smaller or larger objective diameters. This makes this scope more efficient than scopes with larger objectives (like the Bushnell Elite 3200) in-low light shooting conditions, but also takes away some of its usefulness when shooting during bright daylight hours. Mounting & Rings
The Nikon P-308 Scope comes with a Picatinny (MIL-STD 1913) rail, which will fit onto all Picatinny rails. This scope is also compatible with Nikon 1 Nikkor S/T-E lenses, but will not fit the Nikon F mount. The lenses are attached to the P-308 via an extremely sturdy mount.

This was originally a $450 scope at Sportsman’s (deleted). Then they had a sale after discontuance, for $250. Now you find it for $99? I would normally call that a steal. However I’m having a helluva time finding mid height mounts because the preferred low mount (Leupold) strikes the barrel of my .30-06 Weatherby at the objective. Be sure of mounting details before you buy. When I bought mine, I was looking at the comparable Leupold scope. I was unimpressed by the optic quality of the lenses and was declining. The salesman commented that there was another brand scope that was comparable in every way, but the optics were much clearer – it was the Nikon (another model for another rifle). The target was a medical eyechart 100 yards away. The nikon blew away the Leupold. That set me to buy the P-308, later.
