Glass Clarity & Reticle
The glass is clear with no lens tint and there’s no annoying glare in sight.
Because of its optical glass coating, it perfectly reflects light and remains clear.
In fact, the large view glass gives the best field of view possible.
What about the reticle?
The 2 MOA dot reticle is illuminated with four levels of brightness.
So you can easily adjust to any lighting environment. You’ll get a clear view of the dot, even on the brightest of days.
Plus, the reticle adjusted very accurately for sighting in. I’d say it’s just as good as my EOTech xps clone.
Eye Relief & Eye Box
The eye relief on this sight is unlimited.
So you get rapid target acquisition…and you keep both eyes open while in use!

For the most part, it worked great. However, there were some instances during my testing where it shifted my point of aim.
So it needs some work on that end, but it doesn’t change the other great features of this sight.
Mounting & Rings
The Mepro Tru-Dot is designed to mount on any picatinny rail.
So it’s simple enough right there.

A true, quality optic for less than $300?
The Vortex Strikefire II holds zero and is machined from quality materials for high performance in the most demanding conditions.

I’m glad you asked.
Glass Clarity & Reticle
Clear as crystal. I was surprised by how great the view was.
The Strikefire II is fully-multicoated for minimal reflections, which means more light into your eyeball.
Good quality optics cost money, and it’s nice to see a manufacturer that puts that money where it matters most.
The dot is about 4 MOA according to everything I’ve read, a touch larger than I like on my battle rifle, but it has some glowing points, pardon the pun.
First, bigger means brighter and easier to see in all conditions. With ten brightness settings and color choice of red or green, it’s never hard to see, even with night-vision on the lowest selection. There is an accuracy drawback, but let’s face it, it’s still better than an iron front post covering your target.
As you turn up the brightness, it does get a little fuzzy, but hardly noticeable in the sunny conditions needed for that setting.
Overall, even though I consider myself a 3MOA dot kinda guy, I don’t mind the size, especially considering it as part of the whole package: brightness, quality, and so much selection.
The whole system is also nitrogen purged and sealed with o-rings to ensure that it won’t fog up or take on moisture.
Eye Relief & Eye Box
The eye box is huge, and of course the eye relief is forever because there is no magnification on this one.
The specs say 30mm, my eyes say nearly panoramic. I can actually mount this halfway down the flat-top rail and still be very fast on target. 30mm should be a law on red dots. It’s hard to go back to a smaller sight.
Durability
The Vortex Strikefire is light, but it’s also incredibly strong.
Mine hasn’t lost zero in over a thousand rounds of shooting and all the bumping and banging that goes on during the course of competition shooting.
It’s made both strong and light because of the aluminum alloy framing. Vortex chose the right metal for the job.
That’s not to mention that it’ll never rust, ever.
Elevation & Windage Knobs
The adjustment range is a lot, no joke.
This little monster will adjust up to 100MOA before you run out of dial, which means that there’s plenty of room to get it lined up with your barrel, even if your gunsmith didn’t do the best job mounting your rail. Not pointing fingers, just saying.
The clicks are 1/2MOA, which is about right for a red dot. In reality, 1 MOA clicks would be faster, but that’s splitting hairs. Especially since you only need to do the adjustment once on this rugged platform.
Parallax & Magnification
Like most red dots, the magnification is zero (or 1x to be specific) which is where most of us like it. If you want a 1.25x or 1.5x red dot, look elsewhere. If you need magnification, a 1-4x optic might be better.
The clear sight picture means that this scope is designed for battle rifles, shotguns, pistols, and any other ordinance that would work well with irons.
You can even get a tall front post and use it as a co-witness for the dot. Tack on a rear iron sight, and you have a backup battlesight if the battery goes down in the heat of battle.
Parallax is always an issue with red dots, and most other scopes, and the Vortex Optics Strikefire II is no exception. However, with a 4MOA dot, it’s hard to notice. It’s actually quite tolerable for a scope in this price range. Since I co-witness my sight picture, it’s never really been an issue for me.
Parallax issues are what the guys at the range like to cite, calling my “little Vortex” a cheap EOTech clone. Well, until I outshoot them with it. Then they ask me where the best place is to buy one.
Mounting & Rings
Fits just right on most platforms.
The mounting that comes with the Strikefire II will fit any Picatinny or Weaver style rail. To be honest, if it didn’t, I wouldn’t have bought it.
This is a single ring mounting system, and the attachment arm from your rail to the ring is cantilevered forward, making the most of limited space on some platforms. It’ll leave you plenty of room to attach a magnifier, rear sight, or anything else you want in line because it isn’t a rail hog like most magnifier optical systems.
Made from rugged aluminum alloy, the mount is sturdy enough for most any platform, even shotguns, and I’ve had no issues with it yet.
Is the Vortex Optics Strikefire II worth it?
If you are looking for a quality red dot without spending many hundreds of dollars on an ACOG or other so-called state-of-the art gear, the Vortex Optics Strikefire II is about the best bang for the buck you are going to find.

The Holosun HS510C falls into the category of a budget friendly sight; however, the quality will absolutely astonish you.
I have owned multiple EOTechs in the past and I continuously question why I spent that money after purchasing the Holosun HS510C.
Here’s why this sight will exceed all your expectations of what a clone can be…
Glass Clarity & Reticle
The Holosun HS510C has some pretty impressive clarity for the price.
Quite honestly, it’s better than a vast amount of older EOTech’s I have reviewed. All of which were over two times the price of this sight.
There are multiple reticle combinations you can choose from with this sight. This includes 2 MOA dot and a 65 MOA ring, dot only, ring only, or dot and ring.
The combination of different reticles makes this sight unbelievably versatile.
This sight will most certainly have a reticle that suits your shooting style. My personal favorite is the dot only.
Eye Relief & Eye Box
This sight features universal eye relief and has been comfortable on any part of my rail.
Right now, I have the Holosun HS510C attached to my .223 AR and I have been in love with it since the second I put it on.
I could see the sight being a great addition to a multitude of firearms and air rifles.
In addition, the housing is smaller than a lot of other EOTech’s which gives you an improved field of vision.
Durability
The Holosun HS510C is definitely the best EOTech clone knockoff on the market.
The durability and quality of the sight is right there with the EOTech 552.
The titanium construction and shock resistant hood gives you great confidence that the sight will hold up to the hardships of gun ownership.
Elevation & Windage Knobs
The turrets on the Holosun HS510C have been perfect so far.
Defined click and movement is about all I expect out of a turret and this certainly performs well.
Because of this, zeroing the sight was extremely easy and took me 10 minutes at the range.
The sight was practically zero’d when I took it out of the box.
The shock resistant hood is where this sight shines.
I have had a few instances in which I assumed the impact was too intense and I would need to re-zero. However, this wasn’t the case and I haven’t had to re-zero the sight since I bought it.
Parallax & Magnification
With the Holosun HS510C I have noticed little to no parallax through my few months of use.
The sight has a 1x magnification which is all I need out of an AR sight. All of my shooting is close range, so I never need any added magnification.
I have added a 3x magnifier and the sight performs great with that as well.
Mounting & Rings
The Holosun HS510C comes with a fantastic quick detach mount.
Usually I purchase a mount after the fact, but this one has held up great so far.
Quick detach mounts often scare me because they can have a little bit of wiggle room after a few sessions.
I haven’t noticed this issue at all with the provided mount on the Holosun HS510C.
Is the Holosun HS510C worth it?
The Holosun HS510C may be labeled a EOTech 552 clone, but the quality will make you believe the sight costs 3 times as much as it does.

Glass Clarity & Reticle
The glass on this optic is very clear.
Light transmission is fantastic, and image quality is nearly perfect. This is all thanks to the special coating on the lens, which also reduces glare.
I have noticed a very slight blue-green tint in the sight picture. I think this is due to that coating, and I’ll take a slight tint over harsh glare any day. Plus, the lens coating helps prevent scratches, and resists dust buildup.
Now for my favorite feature on the Ultra Shot: the reticle.
This reflex sight uses a 65 MOA red ring around a 2 MOA red dot for a reticle.
This combination is incredible because the ring quickly draws my eye in to center, and the dot allows for precise shot placement. If you’re looking for both speed and accuracy, this is the optic for you!
There are 10 different brightness settings to choose from, and a special night vision mode that can only be seen with night vision. I was easily able to find the best settings for both day and night shooting.
The illumination is powered by a single CR123A and should last for around 2000 hours. I’ve been using mine for a few months and haven’t had to change the battery yet. This partly thanks to the auto-shutoff feature, which will turn off the optic if it’s left on for 12 hours.
This may seem like a long time, but on extended hunts or patrols, you want to be sure your optic is powered up and ready to go when you need it!
To help with that, the Ultra Shot even has a handy auto-on feature that senses movement and turns on the reticle. So you’re always ready for action with this optic on your AR.
Eye Relief & Eye Box
Another fantastic feature with reflex optics like the Sightmark is the unlimited eye relief.
This is really great because it allows the sight to be used in combination with other accessories and optics. (More on that later.)
Plus, it means this optic would be perfect to use on a pistol as well.

Even better, the unlimited eye box means that you can use the Ultra Shot from any shooting position. This is fantastic on a defense gun, because you can’t always guarantee a good shooting stance in an emergency.
With this optic, if you can put the dot on the target, you are good to go.
Durability
Don’t let it’s small size fool you: this sight is seriously rugged.
The body is manufactured from a special lightweight magnesium alloy. This is then covered with a shell of aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum for increased strength and toughness.
And the lens has that special coating we talked about earlier that prevents scratches and dust buildup. This makes sure your glass stays safe and clean at all times.
Plus, the whole thing is waterproof and shockproof.
And, they recoil tested it on a .50 BMG with no issues.
All these durability features mean that you can take this optic into any weather or environmental conditions and not have to worry about damaging it in any way.
Adjustments & Zeroing
The Ultra Shot uses small, flush mounted adjustment turrets.
Unfortunately, this means they aren’t hand adjustable, but it does keep the whole thing slimmer and lighter.
They produce a nice, stiff click and adjust at a rate of 1 MOA per turn. This is nice and precise, and easy to use.
In fact, I was on zero in about 5 shots or so. And thanks to the Interlock internal locking system, you don’t have to worry about losing that zero. Set it and forget it!
Parallax & Magnification
Like all reflex optics, the Ultra Shot is parallax free.
You don’t get any magnification, but that’s fine. A fixed 1x optic allows for fast target acquisition: no fiddling with zoom settings. Just raise your rifle, aim, and fire.
If you want to add some zoom to your AR platform while using this optic, you can always add a magnifier. I’m running the Vortex Optic VMX 3x Magnifier with mine and it works perfectly.

Here’s another great thing about the Ultra Shot: it’s got a built-in Picatinny mount.
You can even get a version with a quick-detach feature on the mount, but I didn’t see the need for that with my setup.
There’s also a built in sunshade, which saves you money on buying a separate shade.
